As some of you have noticed over the past few months, a number of builds platforms have been  dropped from the OpenELEC 4.x nightly builds. This isn’t because of issues with the builds, but rather OpenELEC have simplified the number of builds available and consolidated some of the available builds to reduce the number of build platforms.

For example from OpenELEC 4.x there will be no Intel specific build, instead you will use the Generic build. This does not mean OpenELEC has not dropped support for you device, just that you need to use a different build. This is a continuation of the simplification that were introduced in the OpenELEC 3.2 releases.

Recap – New and dropped builds in OpenELEC 3.2.x (Stable Builds)

OpenELEC 3.2 discontinued the ION 32-bit, Intel 32-bit, and ‘Ultra’ builds for Xtreamer users. If you were using one of these builds the correct migration path is:

  • ION i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) => Generic i386
  • ION i386 (with 64-bit capable hardware) => ION x86_64
  • Intel i386 (with 32-bit capable hardware) => Generic i386
  • Intel i386 (with 64-bit capable hardware) => Intel x86_64
  • Xtreamer Ultra 1 / Xtreamer Ultra 2 => ION x86_64

OpenELEC 3.2 introduces a new Generic 64-bit release as a “catch-all” for recent 64-bit hardware.
